Thinclads Take Second At Millikin

The Wabash track and field team had its best finish of the season on Saturday, taking second place at the Millikin Quad. North Central took first place with 176.67 points, followed by the Little Giant thinclads with 127.33 points. Olivet Nazarene (119), Millikin (109), Illinois College (18), Illinois Wesleyan (8) and Illinois Benedictine (5) completed the field.

Little Giant runner Cary Richey (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) took first place in the 5,000 meters with his best time of the season. Richey completed the circuit in 15:49.31, finishing just ahead of teammate Greg Augspurger (Louisville, KY/Castle) who finished in 15:51.06 in second place. Kyle Hall (Louisville, KY/Seneca) also placed in the top ten, finishing in sixth place with a t ime of 16:11.98.

Brent Bridwell (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) and Peter DeYoung (Evansville, IN/Evansville Bosse) took second and third in the high jump for Wabash. Bridwell cleared his season-best height of 6-04 ¾ to take second place. DeYoung cleared 6-02 ¾ , taking third place. DeYoung also took second place in the long jump, leaping 20-09 ¼ for his best jump of the year. Nate Klatt (Portland, IN/Jay County) finished in third place with a season-best performance of 20-05. DeYoung completed his day with another second-place finish, this time in the triple jump. The freshman made his best jump of the season with a 42-05 ½ leap into the pit to take the red ribbon. Jeff Brown (Salem, OR/Sprague) was fourth with a jump of 41-03, which was also his best of the season. Josh Waters (Muncie, IN/Burris) grabbed seventh place with a season-best mark of 38-04.

Wabash took second, third, and fourth in the hammer throw as Bob Munson (Albion, IN) was the top finisher for the Little Giants with a throw of 143-04. Chris Long (Kokomo, IN/Northwestern) was third with a throw of 129-09, and Derek Wilder (Columbus, IN/Columbus East) was fourth at 121-02.

The Little Giants will complete their season with the North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships this Friday and Saturday.
