Vela Name Conference Player Of The Week

Wabash senior second basemen Aaron Vela (Schererville, IN/Lake Central) has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the period ending April 23.

Vela helped to lead the Little Giants to their eighth win of the season with a 3-5 performance in two games over the weekend. Two of Vela’s hits were doubles, giving him a slugging percentage of 1.000 for the week. He recorded two RBIs and was perfect in the field with five putouts and two assists. Vela is currently third on the team in hitting with a .310 batting average. He is third in runs scored, second in slugging percentage, tied for third in RBIs and third in on-base percentage.

Vela won the Wabash baseball team Mental Attitude Award in 1999 and is a two-year letterman in baseball. An English major, Vela is a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and the Sphinx Club. His brother, Adam ’95, also attended Wabash College. Vela is the son of Rene and Paula Vela of Schererville, Indiana.
