Wilhelm's Power Not Enough To Give Wabash The Win

Despite two home runs from Matt Wilhelm (Wabash, IN/Southwood) and a home run from Aaron Vela (Schererville, IN/Lake Central), the Wabash College baseball team lost both games of the doubleheader against Thomas More College on Saturday afternoon. The Little Giants lost the opener 4-3 and dropped the second game 6-2.

The Little Giants fell behind 2-0 in the first inning before Vela cracked his second homer of the season in the third inning, a solo shot that cleared the left field wall. Wabash tied the game in the fourth when catcher Jake Knott (Lafayette, IN/Jefferson) singled to right, scoring Matt Carlson (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) who had reached on an error with one out in the inning.

A solo shot by Wilhelm in the fifth gave Wabash the lead, but Thomas More plated two runs in the top of the sixth to take the 4-3 victory.

The Little Giants fell behind 4-0 in game two after Thomas More put together two two-run innings in the first and third. Thomas More put two more runs on the board before Carlson singled and Wilhelm hit his ninth homer of the season.

Wabash (7-19) will play a doubleheader against Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday at Mud Hollow Field. Gametime is scheduled for 1 p.m.
