Red Pack Finishes Fourth At Regional

The Red Pack did everything asked of them on Saturday (11/13) but just missed qualifying for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship, finishing fourth in a field of 29 teams.

The Little Giants kept the gap time between the first and fifth runners at exactly one minute. The strong field at the top of the standings kept the Wabash runners from keeping the dream alive of returning to the event that saw Wabash captured 17th place in 1998.

The Red Pack was led individually by senior Mike Vega (Lake Station, IN/Lake Station). The senior finished in 12th place overall in the field of 203 runners with a time of 25:05. Sophomore Jared Smit (Lafayette, IN/Central Catholic) was the next to complete the course for Wabash. Smit, running in only his third meet of the season after injurying his right knee during the summer, finished 23rd with a time of 25:32. Greg Augspurger (Louisville, KY/Castle, IN) was the next to complete the course, taking home 35th place in 25:52. Senior Kyle Hall (Louisville, KY/Seneca) placed 41st with a time of 26:00. Senior Cary Richey (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) was the fifth Little Giant to cross the finish line, taking 44th place with a time of 26:05.

Freshmen Mark Sherer (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso) finished 98th overall with a time of 27:01 and Brandon Shipp (Indianapolis, IN/Franklin Central) finished 134th with a time of 27:46.
