Schubert and Beethoven will be Topic of Discussion

Crawfordsville, Ind. — The Wabash College Music Department is pleased to announce the visit to campus of Marie Dittrich, professor of music at the University of Vienna. On Tuesday evening, March 4, she will speak on the topic of “Austrian Weakness and German Strength: Clichés about Schubert and Beethoven.” The lecture will start at 7:30 p.m. in Lovell Lecture Room in Baxter Hall on the Wabash College campus.

Dittrich is a native of Hamburg, Germany. She has dual German and Austrian citizenship but lives and teaches today in Vienna, where she lives with her husband, the distinguished American musicologist Dr. Sven Hansell. Dittrich is a specialist in the music of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, especially Schubert. She is also widely known as a specialist in gender studies.

Dittrich’s talk is free and open to public.There will be reception prior to her talk at 4:15 p.m. in the Littell Lobby of the Fine Arts Center.
