Title: How to Write/Publish Long Poem
Course Section Number: ENG-390-01
Department: English
Description: How to Write (& Publish) a Long Poem: With warfare. In Eden. Slaying monsters. In love. These are just a few of the answers that poets have offered to the first half of this course title. The best answer, though, is the one that you provide yourself. In this Special Topics course in Creative Writing, you'll channel your inner bard, Muse, or blogger to write a single poem over the course of the semester. That poem might consist of shorter poems strung into a sequence. It might be a fantasy epic, a stage confessional, or the next YouTube hit. Whatever you choose, you'll also learn about publishing-the course title's second half-by working on At Length, a nationally acclaimed journal of long work, co-edited by Prof. Mong, that has been written up in The New Yorker and The Wall Street Journal. No previous creative writing experience is needed-I promise! This course is taught in conjunction with ENG 210. Students taking ENG 390 will receive additional work.
