| Title: | Political Econ of Environment |
|---|---|
| Course Section Number: | PPE-329-01 |
| Department: | Philosophy, Politics, Economic |
| Description: | Are environmental problems best understood as "market failures"? Are market solutions-like carbon pricing or Coasean bargaining-adequate to address environmental concerns? Do traditional theories of economic value properly account for the "free gifts" of nature, such as ecosystem services? Who should pay for the loss and damage incurred by environmental harms? Can economic growth continue indefinitely on a planet with finite resources? This course will address these and other related questions through a sustained engagement with both historical and contemporary work in politics, economics, philosophy, social ecology, and history.
