Title: Hero Or Traitor?
Course Section Number: HSP-250-01
Department: Hispanic Studies
Description: In this course, we'll closely examine the lives and controversial legacies of colonial go-betweens in Latin America. Who were these Indigenous women and men, and why did they guide the forces that subjugated their own people? Do they deserve to be celebrated for their bravery or shunned for their treason? We'll answer these questions with the aid of primary and secondary sources, paying particular attention to the role of gender in shaping the experiences, choices, power, and reputation of intermediaries. Students should sign up under HSP number if they want it to count as HSP. Students should sign up for HIS number if they want it to count as HIS. Students should sign up for GEN number if they want it to count as GEN.
