| Description: | Addiction (whether involving the use of substances like alcohol or other drugs or behaviors such as gambling) can have steep costs for both individuals and society. To reduce the burden and suffering associated with addiction, it is critical to have a better understanding of the biological factors that are promote the development of addictive disorders. In this course, we will consider the neuroscience of addiction, with a focus on brain systems that support reward and craving, and how our understanding of the biological basis of addiction can be used to develop effective treatments and prevention strategies.
