| Title: | Rhetoric and Generative AI |
|---|---|
| Course Section Number: | RHE-270-02 |
| Department: | Rhetoric |
| Description: | How does generative artificial intelligence (re)shape our understanding of human agency? What are the implications of this changing understanding for how we-as citizens in a democratic society-create, circulate, interpret, and contest meaning? Conversely, how do our own rhetorical practices shape what AI becomes? This course explores these questions by examining the relationship between rhetoric and generative AI. Rather than treating AI merely as a compositional tool, we will approach it as a rhetorical site where communicative, institutional, ideological, and material practices converge. Drawing on classical and contemporary rhetorical theory, students will learn to critically analyze diverse scholarly texts and media, experiment with creating persuasive texts using AI, and evaluate AI-generated content for accuracy, audience awareness, and social impact. |
