Title: Daily Life in Ancient Greece
Course Section Number: CLA-113-02SR
Department: Classics
Description: Daily Life in ancient Greece will concentrate on the height of Greek culture during the late Archaic and Classical periods from the 6th through 4th centuries B.C.E. Each week we will discuss one major component that frames and affects the life of an individual residing in ancient Greece-government and political life, environment, health/disease, social hierarchy, family, warfare, religion, fine arts, philosophy, science, economy and trade, gender, and more. Our attention will be focused on Athens due to its level of preservation (archaeological and textual), but other city-states will be included. We will take an interdisciplinary approach in interpreting the ancient Greek world utilizing textual, epigraphic, iconographic, archaeological, and anthropological material/methods. That is, expect to engage with a lot of different types of materials and to attempt to do some re-creations of ancient practices. FR, SO, and JR should sign up under the 01 section. Seniors should sign up under the 01SR section.
