| Description: | This course explores the theory and practice of federal special education and disability law, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Students will examine how socioeconomic status, gender, and disability influence access to special education. Particular attention will be given to teachers' experiences with and expectations of special education law, as well as strategies for supporting families in navigating legal requirements, rights, and resources. Course assessments include quizzes, examinations, and a final project. |
