Title: American Empires: US & Brazil
Course Section Number: HIS-300-01
Department: History
Description: How do empires emerge and endure? Is it guns, gold, ideas, or something else? This course offers a deep dive into the historical forces that built Brazil and the US into the global giants they are today. Focusing on points of comparison and connection, we'll examine the engines of empire--slavery, resource extraction, and culture--and how they propped up spheres of influence that spanned continents. Join us as we weigh historians' arguments and develop our own about the rise and survival of the American superpowers.
