Title: Ancient Christianity in Rome

Description: This course will study the gradual "Christianization" of Rome that the city and empire underwent from 50-650 CE, as well as the gradual "Romanization" of Christianity that the faith underwent under those conditions. We will examine art, material remains, texts and buildings to reconstruct the experiences of Christians, Romans, and Roman Christians. An immersion trip to Rome during Spring Break will allow students to see key sites and come to their own conclusions about this fascinating history for themselves.
