| Description: | Visual images saturate our world and viewing them shapes our experiences of public life. This course explores the role of visual images in U.S. culture, paying special attention to the ways in which images function persuasively as political communication. Students will learn skills and strategies for analyzing historical and contemporary images and artifacts such as photographs, videos, public art, advertisements, and memorials. Throughout the course, we will study how visual images participate in a variety of rhetorical actions, or actions that humans use when we use symbols to persuade.
