| Description: | HYBRID COURSE. PSY-310=NSC-310=GHL-310 Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Title: Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is the sixth leading cause of death in the US, with steep costs to affected individuals and their families. A better understanding of the disease pathology, potential treatments and effective prevention strategies are a critical part of the effort to reduce the burden and suffering associated with this condition. In this course, we will consider the neuropathology of AD and other conditions involving dementia, the impact of AD on cognition, known risk factors associated with the disease, and the state of current research into treatments and prevention strategies. Special emphasis will be given to memory systems, including the hippocampus. |
