Description: REL-280-01 : Religion and Health in America. In this seminar, we will examine the various ways religious groups in America have understood the body and practiced health, focusing on issues of illness, medicine, healing, and death. Discussions will be based on readings addressing health among a variety of religious adherents. In particular, we will focus on the beliefs and practices of Christian groups in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as contemporary issues and medical research in health and religion. No prerequisites.
