| Description: | Citizenship in Dystopia: Political Theory in Fiction and Film. Using short stories, science fiction, film, and political theory, the class will explore imagined dystopian futures, examining what they have to say about contemporary debates. Questions to consider include: How are governments organized to repress human action? Does ever increasing technological development, enforced equality, and eugenic selection limit individual freedom? How can the human spirit aspire to greatness in the midst of forces, whether political or social, dragging it down? This course counts toward the Film and Digital Media minor. |
