South Bend Men Work at YMCA

On October 29, 2005, ten volunteers from the St. Joseph Valley Association of Wabash Men participated in a service project at the South Bend chapter of the YWCA.  Volunteers included Dick Barger, Allen Clingler, Carl Horneman, George Horvath, Peter Horvath, David Olson, Doug Piazza, Roger Senkbeil, Paul Tipps and Peter Trybula.

Beginning at 9:00 a.m., the volunteers worked primarily in the basement area of the YWCA, building large free-standing shelves and cabinets for storage purposes and moving desks. Additionally, a group of five volunteers cleared sod and dirt from an outside area that will eventually become a concrete sidewalk for an emergency exit.

It was a productive day and rewarding experience not just for the YWCA but for the ten volunteers from the SJVAWM.  I fully believe that these same men would engage in similar projects in future years, and I hope that our volunteer corps would grow in the process.
