Organizer Herm Haffner tears into the roof. The goal for the day was to remove the roof, install the sheeting, and lay the tar paper. "We're ahead of schedule," Herm said. "These guys have been great."

Supervisor Larry Burns keeps on eye on his young volunteers. "We've glad to have their help," said Burns, still recovering from a stroke but nevertheless onsite and working. "We always have a blend of skilled and unskilled workers, but it all comes down to throwing as much energy and work at a job as you can to get it done. These guys are getting it done."
