Dodd’s Debut Novel Wins Science Fiction Award

Many of you know Quentin Dodd from our computer center. By day he is our network systems specialist, but by night he is an award winning science fiction writer.

His debut novel, Beatnik Rutabagas From Beyond the Stars, earned critical acclaim at the time of its publishing. Geared toward a younger, middle school-aged audience, online booksellers loved it.

So, too, do other critics. Dodd recently learned that his book has won the Eleanor Cameron Award for excellence in children’s science fiction. Part of the Golden Duck Awards, the Eleanor Cameron Award honors the late writer who authored the "Mushroom Planet" books in the 1950s. The cash awards emphasize SCIENCE fiction rather than fantasy.

Dodd playfully acknowledges that he’ll need to keep his day job. But it’s still a fantastic recognition of his talents as a first time SF writer.

His award will be presented at the 60th World Science Fiction Convention in San Jose later this summer.

Copies of Dodd’s now award-winning novel are available online and in the Wabash College Bookstore in the Sparks Center.
