Former Wabash College psychology professor John Lawrie passed away Monday at Methodist Hospital following an automobile accident last week.
Lawrie joined the Wabash faculty in 1964 and retired in 1994. He was one of the founders of the Wabash Institute for Professional Development.
Lawrie, 71, was also a widely published author who published work in Personnel Journal, Training and Development Journal and Supervision. He was a staff specialist and consultant to National Bank of Detroit and General Motors before coming to Wabash. He also served as the first chairperson of the Indiana State Board of Examiners in 1977 and chaired the Governor’s Task Force on Training and Development in 1980.
He graduated from Beloit College with a major in English literature and earned his masters in Personnel/Labor Relations at the University of Michigan. Lawrie earned his Ph.D at Wayne State University in 1963.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s Episcopal Church. The family will be at the Holiday Inn following the service to greet friends.
