Name: Laura Wysocki

Background:  Professor Wysocki is a Byron K. Trippet Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Wabash, with a specialty in Organic Chemistry and research interests related to the synthesis of fluorescent dyes.  She grew up as the mayor's daughter in New Berlin, Wisconsin before graduating in 2003 from Northwestern University with a double major in Chemistry and the Integrated Science Program.  She received her Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2008 and spent some time at Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Janelia Farm Research Campus before arriving at Wabash in 2011.  She is a fan of the Packers, the Badgers, beer, and cheese, like any good Wisconsin native.

Department and specialty at Wabash: Department of Chemistry, specialty in Organic Chemistry

Favorite part of Wabash:  My favorite part of Wabash is getting to know the students inside and outside of the classroom.  Whether it is a Chemistry major who tries his hand at a theater production or a history major whose discovers an interest in Chemistry 101, getting to know these young men and their diverse talents is incredibly rewarding.

Favorite place on the campus:  My favorite place on campus is the Chapel.  While the seats aren’t always the most comfortable, there is a sense of community that happens there when we gather throughout the year for some of the events that are quintessentially Wabash.

Favorite food:  My favorite food is pizza, which makes me a happy attendee at most seminars on campus!

Something most people don’t know about you:  Although I love playing with my 5 nephews whenever I get the chance, I never learned to ride a bike myself!  Many have threatened to teach me over the years, but none have succeeded.
