Jake Waterman, Kevin McCarthy, Wes Chamblee, and Seth Einterz will compete at the 2011 NCAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet this week at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. Einterz joined the field over the weekend after breaking a 39-year-old Wabash record in the 5000-meter run to earn a provisional qualifying spot in the national field.

McCarthy posted the third-fastest time in the nation of 8:58.66 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the only event in which he will be entered. The junior also qualified for the 800-meter and 1500-meter runs. He earned All-America honors in the 1500-meter run at the 2010 Outdoor Championship meet with a fifth-place finish.

Waterman's qualifying time of 1:50.74 is sixth-best in the field of 19 competitors in the 800-meter run. He hit the automatic qualifying mark at the North Central Gregory Track and Field Invitational last weekend, breaking his own school record in the process. The sophomore finished second in the 800 at the 2011 indoor championship meet to earn All-America honors for the second consecutive season.

Chamblee will compete in the 400-meter hurdles after posting a qualifying time of 53.11 the first time he ran the event this season. He is recovering from reconstructive knee surgery from an injury that ended his 2010 football season. His time is 13th-best among the field of 19 athletes.

Einterz (pictured) hit the provisional qualifying time by winning the 5,000-meter run at the Gregory Invitational Thursday evening with a time of 14:34.91. That topped the Wabash record of 14:36.00 set back in 1972 by Dick Bowerman. Einterz is 19th in the 20-man field, but is less than 15 seconds away from a top-four time overall.

Daniel Ambrosio posted a provisional qualifying mark in the javelin at the Gregory Invitational with a personal-best effort of 59.56 meters (195 feet, 5 inches). However, his mark ended up 22nd on the national list with the top-19 efforts earning a place in the national championship field. Pole vaulters Trevor Young and Matt Knox also posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks, as did the Wabash 4x400-meter relay team. However, those qualifying efforts were not able to make the final cut to earn a chance to compete at nationals based upon the preliminary meet list posted Sunday afternoon.

The 2011 NCAA Division III Championships begin Thursday afternoon at Selby Stadium and Gauthier Track and Field on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
