Red Pack Qualifies For Nationals

The Wabash cross country team accomplished one of its season goals Saturday with a dominating performance at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Regionals. The Little Giants finished second out of 33 teams, earning an automatic team bid to the upcoming national championship meet.

Senior Seth Einterz came within seconds of winning the individual title. He took second place with a time of 25:10, trailing individual winner Nick Kramer from Calvin's winning time of 24:57.

Kevin McCarthy, Donavan White, and Brian David were three of six Wabash runners posting their fastest times of the season. McCarthy added another top-five performance, grabbing fourth place with a time of 25:17. White ran to a 30th-place finish, crossing the finish line 25:57. David blistered the course in 25:58 to finish 34th.

Senior Justin Allen missed the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship meet two weeks ago with an injury, but recovered to run his best time of the year (26:18) as well to finish 52nd. Kenny Farris was 82nd for the Little Giants with a time of 26:43, also a season best. Freshman Jake Ponton added his best time of the year, finishing with a time of 27:22 to take 137th place.

Calvin won the meet with a total of 57. Wabash scored 122, easily outdistancing Albion in third with 177. Ohio Wesleyan was fourth with 199 points.

The NCAA National Championship Meet will be held next Saturday in Waverly, Iowa. Wartburg College will serve as the host school.
