Commencement Weekend May 11-12

Preparing for Commencement 2019

Tuesday, April 2
11:10 am: Briefing
Pioneer Chapel
REQUIRED—Seniors Must Attend
All graduating seniors are required to attend a briefing about Commencement and senior check-out.

Wednesday, April 10 through Wednesday, May 8

Senior Check-Out
Each senior must complete his check-out process no later than May 8, 2019.

Candidates for the degree who fail to complete all of these requirements in a timely fashion will not be allowed to participate in Commencement, nor will their transcripts be released.

By May 3

Purchase/reserve tickets for the Commencement Buffet, to be held Sunday May 12.  Purchase tickets through the Wabash Bookstore.

Commencement Weekend Schedule of Events

The 180th Commencement begins at 2:30 p.m.Friday, May 10
8 am - 5 pm: Senior Art Exhibition
Eric Dean Gallery, Fine Arts Center
Graduating senior art majors Nicholas Buening, Griffin Hall, Austin Nightingale, and David Thomas will display their work. 

 

Saturday, May 11
8 am: Deans’ Senior Breakfast 
Knowling Fieldhouse, Allen Athletics Center
REQUIRED—Seniors Must Attend
Graduating seniors and members of the faculty are invited to breakfast with Deans Scott Feller and Mike Raters ’85. The starting time will be strictly observed, and dress for the breakfast is collared shirt and slacks.


9 am: Commencement Rehearsal
Pioneer Chapel
REQUIRED—Seniors Must Attend
Seniors will move directly from the Deans’ Breakfast to the rehearsal. The starting time will be strictly observed.

Saturday events for families of seniors, alumni, and other visitors:

8 am - 5 pm: Senior Art Exhibition
Eric Dean Gallery, Fine Arts Center
Graduating senior art majors Nicholas Buening, Griffin Hall, Austin Nightingale, and David Thomas will display their work. 

8 am - 12 pm: Fitness Center Open
Allen Athletics and Recreation Center

10 am - 4 pm: Bookstore Open
Lower Level of the Frank Hugh Sparks Center

2:30 pm: Phi Beta Kappa Initiation
Lovell Lecture Room, Baxter Hall

3:30 pm - 5 pm: President’s Reception
The Elston Homestead, 400 East Pike Street
Join President and Mrs. Hess for a celebration in honor of the Class of 2019 and their families. (Rain location - Detchon Center).

 

Sunday, May 12

Seniors and Faculty must arrive at 10:30 am for Baccalaureate and 2:00 pm for Commencement. It takes 30 minutes to line up seniors by name. Be on time and quickly find your place.

Seniors march in alphabetical order—led by the two Commencement speakers and followed by the men who are receiving academic honors (also in alphabetical order). At the head of the procession is Faculty Marshal James Cherry, who will direct the seating.

10:30 am: Formation of the Academic
Procession for Baccalaureate
Sidewalk East of Center Hall
In the event of rain, the procession will form in Baxter Hall.

11 am: Baccalaureate Chapel
Pioneer Chapel
The Baccalaureate sermon will be given by Rev. Dr. Jessicah Krey Duckworth.

12 pm: Commencement Buffet
Knowling Fieldhouse, Allen Athletics Center
A buffet lunch will be served at a cost of $15 per person for graduating seniors and their families.

12 pm - 2:30 pm: Bookstore Open
Lower Level of the Frank Hugh Sparks Center

1:30 pm: Legacy Photographs
Sidewalk East of Center Hall
Seniors who are legacies are invited to have their picture taken with family members at no charge.

Procession for Commencement

In the event of rain, the procession will form in the lobby of the Allen Athletics Center.

2:30 pm: 181st Commencement Ceremony
Wabash College Mall
In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in Chadwick Court. Complimentary photographs will be taken of your son as he receives his diploma and will be mailed to parents after Commencement. 

4 pm: Reception for the Class of 2019
Great Hall, Frank Hugh Sparks Center
President and Mrs. Hess will host a reception in honor of the Wabash College Class of 2019.
