Wally's Bookshelf is a casual book discussion led by a Wabash faculty or staff member via Zoom and provides participants the opportunity to connect with fellow Little Giants. Participants are required to procure and read the book, but the virtual discussion is free.
I Never Thought of It That Way: How to Have Fearlessly Curious Conversations in Dangerously Divided Times by Mónica Guzmán is for anyone who wants to have curious conversations with friends, family, and community members who may have different experiences, values, and beliefs. Guzmán offers insights and strategies about how to overcome fear of engagement, ask curious questions, and learn from different worldviews. In our Wally's Bookshelf session, come prepared to discuss and practice.
Dr. Sara Mehltretter, Professor of Rhetoric
Dr. Sara Mehltretter is a Professor of Rhetoric at Wabash. She earned her B.A .at Boston College and her M.A. and Ph.D. at The Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Mehltretter's teaching and research analyzes the quality and character of public discourse in the United States, with particular focus on productive communication to engage and solve problems across divides. She is Founding Director of the co-curricular program Wabash Democracy and Public Discourse, which provides students the opportunity to lead deliberations, dialogues, and public forums. From 2022-2024, Dr. Mehltretter served as Chief of Deliberation Operations for Unify America, a national, nonpartisan, non-profit organization working across the United States. Dr. Mehltretter is a loyal supporter of Wabash Athletics, and spreads the fame of our College's honored name by broadcasting on air as the "Voice of Wabash College Volleyball."
