Assistant Director of Financial Aid

The Wabash College Financial Aid Office invites candidates for its position of Assistant Director of Financial Aid.  The Wabash College Financial Aid Office administers approximately $40 million in federal, state, and institutional aid and provides financial assistance to approximately 850 current and 600 prospective students annually. We are committed to helping families feel comfortable with navigating their way through the financial aid application process. Additionally, we help them understand their financial aid award and the financing options available to them. As such, we strive to make our office approachable, friendly and our interactions with parents and students positive in all situations. Providing excellent customer service is always our goal.


The Assistant Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the development, coordination, and execution of student financial wellness and borrower education programing. This position will direct the creation of innovative programs and services to facilitate the ongoing development of student financial responsibility.


Additionally, this position is responsible for assisting families in developing a financial plan for their portion of the overall cost, which may include monthly payment plans, Federal Direct Loans for students and/or parents, and alternative student loan options.

This position processes and reconciles all student and parent educational loans, including alternative student loans, in strict adherence to federal regulations and College policy.


This position administers changes and updates to the Financial Aid portion of the website, helps students and parents with the financial aid process, explains financial aid awards, and administers federal, state, and institutional aid to all qualified students.


Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Financial Wellness Programming
    • Develop a robust Financial Wellness program for all Wabash students that supports the College’s Mission Statement and Core Values
    • Coordinate implementation of Financial Wellness programming with internal and external partners
    • Coordinate cross-departmental projects related to financial wellness
    • Engage the campus community in developing an environment of financial wellness
    • Develop an effective Peer Mentoring program
    • Establish quality web-based resources and a consistent social media presence
    • Evaluate and improve upon programming, utilizing participant feedback and empirical data


  • Borrower Education
    • Assist borrowers with completion of the Master Promissory Note, Entrance and Exit Counseling, and the Annual Student Loan Acknowledgement form
    • Provide supplemental presentations to reinforce borrower rights and responsibilities, particularly to graduating seniors
    • Conduct in-person counseling for students with excessive borrowing
    • Prepare and distribute the annual Loan Debt Accumulation notification
    • Work with 3rd party partner to provide supplemental default prevention strategies and outreach to delinquent and defaulted borrowers.

Secondary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Financial Aid Outreach
  • Conduct one-on-one appointments with admitted students and their families to review their financial aid package and tuition invoice, explain financing options, and assist with completion of loan applications and/or set up a monthly payment plan
  • Advise currently enrolled students to resolve balances due by reviewing financing options, examining their income and expenses, and otherwise problem-solve through sound money management techniques
  • Maintain and update the Financial Aid Office portion of the Wabash website as needed
  • Assist with creation of literature and communications to students regarding the financial aid process and availability
  • Attend and participate in Admissions events as assigned, both on and off-campus
  • Financial Aid Processing
    • Import, certify, and export all Federal Direct Student Loans, Parent (PLUS) loans, and alternative student loans
    • Reconcile disbursements from all loan programs on a weekly basis (no less than monthly per federal requirements)
    • Maintain compliance with all federal loan regulations
    • Maintain alternative loan online comparison tools (Invested and FastChoice)
    • Provide back-up support for verification, processing Missing Information Letters, data entry, printing financial aid notifications, and responding to phone and email inquiries

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all Department of Education Title IV, FERPA, and other related rules and regulations
  • Utilize the appropriate regulatory resources to retrieve information for student and staff inquiries
  • Participate on assigned Enrollment office teams
  • Present information about Wabash to groups of students, parents, educators and alumni on and off campus

  • Conduct campus-based admissions interviews with prospective students as needed
  • Assist with Wabash 101 and orientation activities
  • Other duties as assigned
