Assistant Basketball Coach

Wabash College, a NCAA Division III institution and member of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), seeks a passionate and dedicated Full-Time Assistant Basketball Coach to join our athletic staff. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a program that values excellence, character, and academic rigor.
The Assistant Basketball Coach assists with all aspects of the men’s basketball program, including recruiting qualified student-athletes, planning and leading practices, providing on-court instruction and player development, and supporting student-athlete well-being and academic success under the guidance of the Head Basketball Coach.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, games, strength and conditioning sessions, and player development activities.
- Recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes who align with the mission and values of the institution.
- Provide technical, tactical, and positional instruction to enhance individual and team performance.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to student-athlete health, safety, academic success, and overall well-being.
- Support program operations, including travel coordination, equipment management, scheduling, and game preparation.
- Uphold and enforce institutional, conference, and NCAA Division III rules, regulations, and compliance standards.
- Serve as a positive mentor and role model, fostering discipline, sportsmanship, accountability, and teamwork.
- Assist with camps, clinics, and other program outreach or fundraising initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
Qualifications
Required:
- Knowledge of competitive basketball techniques, rules, and strategies.
- Strong commitment to the academic success and holistic development of student-athletes.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and use of administrative systems required.
- Ability to collaborate with the college community, including senior management, faculty and staff members, students, volunteers, and third-party business partners and vendors.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Previous experience playing or coaching intercollegiate basketball.
- Familiarity with NCAA rules and regulations and Division III recruiting practices and compliance standards.
- Prior experience recruiting student-athletes at the collegiate level.
- Experience in a specific area of basketball development (e.g., guards, post players, shooting development, strength and conditioning).
