Byron K. Trippet Assistant or Associate Professor of Rhetoric

The Wabash College Rhetoric Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position to begin July 1, 2026. Expertise and training in rhetorical studies is required, and preference will be given to PhDs in Communication. The area of research specialization is open, but candidates must demonstrate pedagogical depth in argumentation theory. PhD required by the start of appointment, but ABD candidates are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and research in the broad intellectual community of an undergraduate, residential liberal arts setting. Teaching responsibilities consist of teaching three courses per semester, including public speaking, reasoning and advocacy (RHE 201, a required course for rhetoric majors at Wabash College), advanced electives in area of specialization, senior seminar, and all-college courses. An ability to teach classical rhetoric (RHE 320) and/or argumentation and debate (RHE 140) is a plus.

The Rhetoric Department has four full-time faculty and a strong culture of innovative pedagogy, collegiality and mentoring, and research.
