The Wabash College Department of Theater invites applications for a part-time Assistant Technical Director/Resident Lighting Designer to collaborate with the Scenic Designer/Technical Director and faculty directors, and to mentor a diverse undergraduate student population. This is a 10-month part-time hourly position that begins July 1, 2024. Position is continuing based on periodic performance reviews and Department and College needs and circumstances. We seek an artist/educator with an active creative practice interested in exploring theatrical technology in a liberal-arts context. M.F.A. in Technical Theater or Lighting Design required.

Responsibilities would include:

  • Design the stage lighting of three mainstage productions per academic year.
  • Oversee, instruct, and supervise student employees in the implementation of all lighting systems within budgetary guidelines.
  • Supervise the operations of the Department of Theater Scenic Shop to ensure an organized, efficient and safe environment for the purposes of theatrical production and student education.
  • Work with the Technical Director to oversee, instruct, and supervise student employees and contract labor as required to complete work within budgetary guidelines.
  • Work with the Technical Director to maintain all scenic and lighting shop machinery, tools, inventory, and stock.
  • Teach a course in lighting design periodically, depending on candidate qualifications and the needs of the College and the department.
