| Course Section Number: | ENG-180-01 |
| Department: | English |
| Description: | While science fiction often envisions alien civilizations and futuristic forms of technology, the genre has also been used to examine humanity's relationship to the natural world. In this course, we will analyze ways that authors like Ray Bradbury, Philip K. Dick, and Ursula K. Le Guin use the genre to respond to major environmental issues of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries-from the threat of nuclear fallout in the post-World War II era to climate change in the last few decades. We will also analyze the ecological use of the genre in films, video games, and other media. |
