| Description: | The first half of the course focuses on mathematical approaches to analyzing bonds, in particular the sorts of issues a portfolio manager would be interested in. Topics covered include the time value of money, bond pricing for option-free bonds, yield measures, the yield curve, spot rates, forward rates, return analysis, and duration as a measure of price volatility. The second half of the course deals with mathematical issues associated with financial derivatives. This course does not count toward the mathematics major or minor. It will count toward the mathematics and science distribution or the quantitative literacy requirements. Prerequisites: none. |
