Egret at Sunrise

by David Krohne

Each photograph I’ve taken on biology field trips with students is a reminder of the opportunities my students have had to study these creatures and systems up close. They gain not only essential field training during these trips, but a deeper appreciation for these wild places, as well.

This photo of an egret at sunrise during the advanced ecology field trip to Florida is pretty typical of what we observe. We wake up early, before dawn, and most of my students see more sunrises during that week than they’ve seen their entire lives!

David Krohne is professor of biology at Wabash.
