Soccer Construction - 6/22/11

The first rolls of turf were rolled into place on the new soccer field Tuesday afternoon. The FieldTurf crew anticipates anywhere between 14 and 17 days of work to complete the surface installation. Photos by Brent Harris.

 The crew rolls out the next section of turf upside down, then sews the seams together before flipping it over to add the next section.

This pneumatic sewing machine has three spools of white thread and one spool of green thread to lock each section of turf in place.

Work also continues on the rest of the soccer stadium. The cement for the stands was being poured Wednesday morning.

 Final touches are being applied to the outside area of the stands, as well.

A new storage building is nearly complete at the south end of the stadium. The soccer and track and field teams will use this facility to store equipment.

The construction project will also provide new areas for the track and field team. This shot put circle is just south of the soccer field and will be used for practice and home meets.

 These stairs lead from Jennison Street down to the field level of the soccer stadium.

The FieldTurf crew began the installation on the south end of the field and will move across the to the north edge over the next few days.
