CTCL May Tour

a group of people on a baseball field

Rick Strasser '02 and I had great seats for the Nationals/Phillies game on Friday night.

a baseball game in a stadium

Light crowd, but a loud one until Ryan Howard's 3-run homer.

In Milwaukee, they race sausages.  In D.C., they race Presidents.  George Washington ran like Usain Bolt on Friday night.

a brick building with a walkway and trees

The Pope-Leighy House at Woodlawn just outside of Alexandria, VA.  Friends from CTCL members schools joined members of Loren's family for a memorial service on Sunday evening.  Loren passed away in September of this year. In 1941, Loren Pope penned a letter to Frank Lloyd Wright asking if he would build a house for him.

Loren and his family lived in this home until the mid 1960's. The house is now a historic landmark.

a kitchen with a brick wall

The kitchen.  Very small by today's standards.  One of our guides mentioned that this kitchen has the same dimensions of the kitchens found in Pullman railroad cars.  This sparked further conversation for the guide and myself as I know a bit about Pullman having studied him in C&T.  You never know when that stuff will come in handy.

a room with a desk and bookshelf

This house itself is about 1,200 square feet, so it felt more like "a work of art" than a home.  This shot of the living room shows some of Frank Lloyd Wright's design elements.

long shot of a hallway

Slow morning at Baltimore/Washington International.  This photo taken 15 minutes prior to boarding my flight to Manchester, NH. Needless to say, the flight wasn't full.

a room with tables and chairs

Counselor set up for the fair in Boxborough, MA.  I thought this location was a bit off the beaten path, but we had a great turnout.  Students from every state in New England were in attendance.

If you think your office/cube is small, it could be worse.  This "office" is a few inches wider than the door and as filled with a/v equipment.  This is almost as bad as Runge's penalty box in Forest Hall.
Photo taken at an undisclosed location during this week's tour.

a building with a tower in the background

View from my hotel room in Cleveland.  City Hall is in foreground and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is behind it. My schedule didn't afford me time to visit, but from what I heard, it's a must see.

Maria Furtado and Marty O'Connell warm up the Cleveland crowd with some "admissions aerobics".
