Newport, Ky., across the Ohio from downtown Cincinnati now boasts just the second Hofbrauhaus in the world. The Hofbrauhaus is a famous beer hall and restaurant in Munich, Germany. Munich and Cincinnati are sister cities. The freshman tutorial class had quite a feast Tuesday night at the new riverfront hot sport.
Andreas explains
German national Andreas Mankel proved to be an important travel partner for the freshmen exploring German immigration. He would frequently provide nuance and comment on authenticiy of sites the students visited.
Cold Tuesday
Students skipped a large portion of Tuesday's planned afternoon tour in Cincinnati due to snow and cold temperatures. But they did make a brief stop in Covington, Kentucky, to visit its MainStrasse Village and an old German Church which had a key role in starting the convent in Ferdinand they had visited earlier in the week.
Sisters of Saint Francis
The Sisters of Saint Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, has provided school teachers for decades to many Indiana schools, including several of the parish schools in Indianapolis. The tutorial students engaged in a brief walking tour of the small town known as the Village of Spires.
Signs of Oldenburg
Oldenburg has German churches, restaurants and even street signs. The small community was founded by Germans who had immigrated to Cincinnati and eventually branched out to form their own smaller communities in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

The freshmen had a brief lunch at Indianapolis' City Market, a building built and designed by Indianapolis Germans.
