As part of this weekend's Family Day festivities, the Music Department will present a concert featuring ensembles and soloists. The concert will take place at 8 p.m., Saturday, November 5, in Salter Hall in the Fine Arts Center.

Wamidan's drummers, singers, and dancers will begin the evening in their customary energetic and lively manner, with music from the Ganda and Acholi peoples of East Africa. Syud Ahmed '06 and Grey Castro will present an original composition for tabla (drums of the Asian subcontinent) and didgeridoo.

Pianists Christopher Geggie '08 and Kyle Prifogle '09 will perform compositions by Spanish composers Isaac Albeniz (Asturias/Leyenda from Suite Espanola) and Alberto Ginastera (five of the Twelve American Preludes). Fritz Kreisler's arrangement of Manuel de Falla's Danse Espagnole, played by violinist Adam Dybel '07, will add to the Spanish flavor of the evening.

An arrangement of "I Remember Clifford" by jazz pianist George Colakovic '06 will round out the solo portion of the concert and whet the audience's appetite for songs by jazz greats Wayne Shorter, Duke Ellington, and Charlie Parker, as performed by the Jazz Improvisation Combo. Performing will be Desmond Risper '07 on tenor saxophone, Haris Amin '08 on guitar, and George Colakovic, Tyler Carr '06, and Miguel Munoz '09 on piano, bass, and drums, respectively.

The Glee Club will close the concert with a set of songs ranging from a16th-century Latin motet, "Cantate Domino" by Hassler, to the joyous rhythms of the traditional spiritual "Poor Man Lazarus."

The concert is free and open to the public.
