The Trojan War in Archaeology, Text, and Film A conflict of epic proportions, the Trojan War sits at the center of Western ideology about valor, masculinity, and athleticism. We will start by reading Homer's Iliad, the earliest surviving narrative of the war, evaluate the historicity of the conflict by sifting through archaeological evidence, and finally consider later retellings of it, including a Greek tragedy and the Hollywood blockbuster Troy. |
