Dedication of John Fischer Field, Sept. 10, 2016

On Saturday afternoon, the Wabash soccer facility was officially dedicated Fischer Field in honor of Professor Emeritus of Classics John Fischer H’70, who takes a look at the sign here with his former student, Professor of Classics Jeremy Hartnett ’96, and Dean for Advancement Michelle Janssen.

Another of Professor Fischer's former students, Wabash Hall of Fame soccer player Hagan Manker ’73. Fischer was the driving force behind the formation of the Wabash Club in 1965 and served as assistant coach when the sport went varsity in 1967.

The Fischer Field Dedication was one of the highlights of this weekend's 50 Years of Soccer at Wabash celebration and brought former players Charlie Hutchins ’76, Jim Pace ’77, and Joe Pfennig ’82 back for a reunion.

The game began with a moment of silence in memory of Austin Weirich ’18, a 20-year-old junior from Goshen, Indiana, who passed away on Friday.
