Bay Area Weekend

a man standing on a bridge

I made Charles pose for a picture on the Golden Gate Bridge. He called bracing and invigorating. I'd call it frightening, exhilerating, and a 'must do' if you ever go to San Francisco!

a large ship sailing in the water

We both scurried to take a picture of this large cargo shipping going beneath the Golden Gate Bridge. In the background is Alcatraz prison.

several trees in a forest

This was my favorite photo from John Muir woods. The Redwood trees are breathtaking in beauty and size. This one doesn't illustrate the sheer size of these giants but this particular stand must be most photographer's favorite spot.

looking up view of tall trees

I love this shot Steve took with a wide angle lense. He's positioned between a stand of Redwoods and shooting straight up.

a man taking a picture of a tree

I took this picture of Steve taking a picture to illustrate how big these trees are for anyone who's never seen them before.

a wire fenced vineyard

Here is a typical vineyard in Napa Valley. I have to admit it's much more beautiful when the vineyards are green but we were a few weeks early for that.

a wooden pergola with a tree in front of a building

This is one of only two stops we made in Napa - Sawyer Vineyards. It's a small family opened operation known for its Cabernet Sauvignon blend and its Cab. Steve bought a bottle of Merlot Rose - something I had never tasted before but he liked. I bought a bottle of their Cab which was super smooth and rich.

a long table in a room

We spent a good portion of our afternoon at Joseph Phelps Winery with Stephen Pavy '81. It's one of the premier stops on any Napa tour - by appointment only! This is a room where they conduct wine education classes.

a view of a green field and trees

Steve took this great shot of one of the Phelps vineyards. This shows the beauty of Napa - and when those vineyards below are in season, it's incredibly beautiful.

a man pouring wine into a glass

Steve pours a little Sauvignon Blanc. Phelps makes fabulous wines but is best known for its Insignia - which is a Cabernet blend. I brought a bottle home for some very, very special occasion.
