A Father's Stories: Carl Kelley ’43

a man laughing at another man

Mike Kelley ’70 enjoyed the moment as his father, Carl Kelley ’43, recalled a few humorous details from his days as a student at Wabash. Carl was our first guest at last June's Big Bash Scarlet Yarns project, during which we videotaped alumni stories from their Wabash days. Carl died Christmas Eve 2008. This album celebrates the joyful half-hour we spent with Carl and Mike last June and honors their contribution to this historical project. We could not have imagined a better way to get things started! Photos by Steve Charles H’70

Josh Harris ’07 did a great job interviewing our guests, starting with Carl and Mike. Here Wabash archivist Beth Swift, who also interviewed alumni that day, preps Josh for his interviews.

Mike asked his dad a question from time to time to prompt his memory.

But even Mike was surprised by some of the stories he heard!

And student intern Brandon Hirsch ’10 laughed so hard he almost cried!

Carl takes a good look at his reunion weekend hat and savors the moment. He was good at that, and that day he taught all of us in the room to do the same. Unforgettable.
