Tanchevski Receives NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Wabash College senior soccer player Michael Tanchevski has been selected to receive the prestigious Postgraduate Scholarship from the NCAA.

Created in 1964, The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. The one-time non-renewable scholarships of $10,000 are awarded three times a year corresponding to each sport season (fall, winter and spring).  Each sports season there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women for use in an accredited graduate program.

Tanchevski, a senior defender for the Little Giants, is a biology major with a 3.60 cumulative grade point average. He was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Team for the second consecutive season. Tanchevski also earned All-Great Lakes First Team honors from the United Soccer Coaches. He is a two-time First Team All-NCAC selection and was named the 2019 NCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year. Tanchevski helped Wabash break the school record for goals-against average in a season with a final average of 0.81. He appeared in 64 career games for the Little Giants and scored five goals, including two game-winning shots, with one assist.

Tanchevski observed Wabash graduate and neurosurgeon Dr. John Serak '05 for two weeks last summer as part of a Wabash College Global Health Initiative summer internship. Tanchevski plans to attend medical school in the fall after graduating from Wabash in May.

"Michael is most deserving of the NCAA's Postgraduate Scholarship Award," Matt Tanney, Wabash Director of Athletics and Campus Wellness, said. "His achievements in the classroom parallel his exceptional leadership and performance on the soccer team. It's a significant recognition, and Michael embodies the excellence of this honor."

Tanchevski is the 21st Wabash student-athlete to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and is the first since Weston Kitley received the honor in 2013.
