    A Wabash Homecoming

by Richard Paige   •   October 5, 2016 Print version Share:
Cal Black 66 (center) chats with current students prior to Chapel sing. His great-uncle, Carroll Ragan, wrote the music for 'Old Wabash' and the music and lyrics to Alma Mater. Last minute preparations are serious busniness. Sphinx Club President Drew Biddle 17 gets the festivities started. Members of Theta Delta Chi were enthusiastic supporters of their pledges. Each Sphinx Club member seems to have a watchful eye on this day. Sigma Chi ended the day on a high note as winners of Chapel Sing 2016. He more than earned his W. Tu Nguyen 17 managed to judge with a smile. There's a name held dear and a color we cheer, Wherever we find it glowing...' Sphinx Club alums arent afraid to lend an ear. Never lose focus. Some say to focus on the top of the flag pole. And loud and long shall echo the song, Till hill and valley are ringing...' What campus event would be complete without social media? Someone has to carry the flag. For Kappa Sigma, it was Ryan Cairns 17. There is always time for a water break. Delta Tau Delta returned to Chapel Sing and their support was immense. The Beta pledges guard the Chapel steps. Sphinx Club members tally the votes. A fist bump just prior to entering the Chapel. The spray-painted W is a time-honored Wabash tradition. Long shall we sing thy praises, Old Wabash.' Chapel Sing spectators really enjoy the competition. Earn a W, flash a smile. Mac Norton 17 sings 'Old Wabash' just before the winners are announced.

Wabash College welcomed alumni and friends to campus as it threw open its doors for Homecoming Weekend festivities, which began Thursday.

The weekend opened with Chapel Sing, one of Wabash’s most cherished rites of passage in front of Pioneer Chapel. Members of the Class of 2020 were tested on their knowledge of the words to “Old Wabash,” one of the nation’s longest fight songs.

Thursday evening marked the beginning of the Leadership Summit with a keynote address by Anne Walsh, Assistant Chief Investment Officer, Fixed Income, for Guggenheim Partners. Her address was “Creative destruction is now commonplace....why liberal arts matter even more.”

The Summit, which continued through Saturday, brought together the leaders of the National Association of Wabash Men, the Parents Advisory Committee, and the Liberal Arts Plus initiatives to meet, strategize, and collaborate.

JB Bachman '61 received the Frank W. Misch Alumni Service AwardAlumni took center stage on Saturday, Oct. 8, with a multitude of activities.
