Another week — another Wabash track and field record.
Jake Waterman won the 400-meter dash at Friday night's Tiger Small College Indoor Invitational at DePauw University with a time of 49.62 to set a new school record.
Waterman broke the mark of 50.00 set by Nathan Bates in 2005. Waterman's time is also the 11th-quickest time reported this season among Division III men's runners. Joining Waterman as a member of the sub-50 club was teammate
John Haley, who finished third with a time of 49.92.
Brian David was one of three other Wabash athletes to win individual events Friday night. David won the mile run with a time of 4:28.10, his best personal time in that event.
Vann Hunt won the triple jump with a mark of 12.76 meters (41 feet, 10.5 inches), with
John Bogucki finishing fourth (11.70 meters; 38 feet, 4.75 inches). Bogucki added a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.88 meters (6 feet, 2 inches).
Kris Nickle finished fifth in the event (1.83 meters; 6 feet).
Joel Beier captured the shot put title with a mark of 14.73 meters (48 feet, 4 inches), narrowly outdistancing teammate
Derek De St Jean and his second-place mark of 14.46 meters (47 feet, 5.25 inches).
Wabash also won the 1600-meter relay with a time of 3:25.63 and the distance medley relay (10:45.82).
Trevor Young cleared 4.45 meters (14 feet, 7.25 inches) to finish second in the pole vault.
Nathan Mueller finished third in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.46. Haley finished fourth, crossing the line in 8.55.
Wabash finished second in the team standings with a total of 161.5 points. Rose-Hulman won the meet with a total of 165 points. Bellarmine took third place (108.5), followed by Marian (96), DePauw (38), and Franklin (19).
