After tabulation and confirmation of the ballots, alumni have selected Aman Brar ’99 and Greg Castanias ’87 to join the Wabash College Board of Trustees. Both men will serve on the Board for a four-year term (2018-2022) starting this fall.
Alumni also reelected incumbents Jim Hawksworth ’95 and Joe Trebley’01 to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Wabash Men in addition to electing Garrard McClendon ’88. All three men will serve on the NAWM Board for three years (2018-2021) starting this fall.
“We have an active, dedicated, engaged NAWM Board who represent broad segments of our alumni population,” said NAWM Board President Rob Shook ’83. “By reelecting Joe Trebley and Jim Hawksworth, we're keeping two talented men who have made significant contributions in their first term. Adding Garrard McClendon will make ours team only stronger.”
About the new Wabash College Board of Trustees Alumni Representatives
Aman D. Brar ’99 has an extensive background in leading technology companies through periods of high growth and has also held key corporate strategy and finance roles at Fortune 500 companies. Recognizing the need for a method to boost recruiting productivity, Aman and his team launched Canvas, the first text-based interviewing platform that enables recruiters to screen more job candidates and market employment brands. Aman sits on the board of the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis, Teach for America Indianapolis, and Employ Indy. He’s also active with The Mindtrust and Wabash College’s Center for Innovation, Business and Entrepreneurship (CIBE). Aman earned his undergraduate degree from Wabash College and an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University – Bloomington.
Gregory A. Castanias ’87 is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of the Jones Day law firm, where he has argued numerous cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, the federal courts of appeals, state supreme courts, and international arbitral tribunals. He was one of the founders of the National Capital Association of Wabash Men and served for more than 10 years on the Board of Directors of the NAWM, culminating in a term as President. He also previously served as a member and Chair of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law Alumni Board. While Wabash remains a top priority, Greg also serves as a director of the Gladney Center for Adoption in Fort Worth, Texas, as a director of the Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation, and as a member of the Board of Visitors at the Maurer School of Law, where he is also Adjunct Professor of Law. Greg and his wife, Jane, live in Northern Virginia with their daughters Alexandra and Gabriella-Anne.
About the new Board of Directors members of the National Association of Wabash Men
James A. Hawksworth ’95 is an executive vice president and Chicago branch manager of Willis Re, the reinsurance division of global insurance and consultant firm Willis Towers Watson. He is responsible for the sales and execution of reinsurance contracts between insurance companies and the international reinsurance market. Jim is a past president of the Theta Delta Chi Alumni Association and actively participates in Wabash Club of Chicago gatherings. Jim comes from a true Wabash family: Several family friends, cousins, and two brothers (’88 & ’91) have attended the school in addition to his father (Class of ’56), to whom Jim and his brothers dedicated the current football scoreboard as a part of the athletics renovation project in 2010. Jim lives in the south suburbs of Chicago with his wife, Brenda, and three children: Carly, Abigail, and Jimmy (Class of 2028).
Garrard O. McClendon '88 is an associate professor of public school law and school finance at Chicago State University. He has hosted the television shows, CounterPoint on Lakeshore PBS and Garrard McClendon LIVE on CLTV / WGN. He earned an Emmy Award for his show Off 63rd with Garrard McClendon. Garrard is the director of the anti-violence film Forgiving Cain and the author of Ax or Ask? The African American Guide to Better English and Donda’s Rules: The Scholarly Works of Dr. Donda West (Mother of Kanye West). While a Little Giant, Garrard was a member of the MXI, lettered in track and field, was a member of the Glee Club. He has earned an Associated Press Impact Award, NAACP Champion Award, and a Human Relations Leadership Award. He is the executive director of the McClendon Education Foundation and holds board seats at the Sheila A. Doyle Foundation, Donda’s House Foundation, and Wabash Democracy and Public Discourse. He earned his PhD in educational leadership and policy from Loyola University. Garrard and his wife, Quanica, live in Chicago.
Joseph P. Trebley ’01 is the founder and CEO of Monon Bioventures, whose mission is to take discoveries from the lab bench to the marketplace. Prior to MBV, he was director of Indiana Universities startup program. Joe received his PhD from Purdue University and served as principle at In-Vivo Ventures and VP of R&D for Kylin Therapeutics. He has served as chair of the Career Services Committee for the Indianapolis Association of Wabash Mem and the NAWM. He is on the Board for Wabash’s CIBE and co-chairs the NAWM’s Engagement and Advancement Committee. Joe received the Jeremy Wright Young Alumnus Award in 2016. He is a Lilly Scholar, brother in Phi Delta Theta, Class Agent, and in the 1832 Society. He lives with his wife and three children in Fishers, Indiana.
