2018 Senior Art Majors Exhibition

The work of six Wabash College art majors will be spotlighted at the 2018 Senior Art Majors Exhibition.

The exhibit opens on Friday, April 20, with a reception, 4:30-6 p.m. in the Eric Dean Gallery in the Fine Arts Center. The following seniors will be honored: Thomas Boudreau, Taylor Canter, Joey Dierdorf, Ross Harvey, Dominick Rivers, and Sam Watts.

BKT Assistant Professor of Art Damon Mohl remarks, “This exhibition is the capstone experience for art majors at Wabash College. It is the culmination of four years of work, which has entailed exploring various mediums, creative thought, research and analysis and critical decision-making. Each of these six seniors has devoted a massive amount of time and energy and as a result, created cohesive bodies of work that best exemplify their current art making practices. The exhibition displays the highest level of accomplishment each artist has achieved.”

Thomas Boudreau creates interdisciplinary art that meets at the intersection of sculpture, performance and ritual. His intense research has lead to a distilled body of work that draws on personal mythologies and universal themes of interconnectedness.

Taylor Canter creates deconstructed representational images through digital processes. Drawing on a strong interest in graphic design, his work experiments with abstraction, color, movement and composition in ways that are both pleasing to the eye and visually compelling.

Joey Dierdorf’s representational oil paintings and three-dimensional triptychs explore the nature of memory through highly rendered detailed images that draw from his childhood and the Indiana farm where he grew up.

Ross Harvey’s sculptural work meditates on our consumer culture by using found materials that are “Frankensteined” together to simulate familiar objects in unique and thoughtful ways.

Dominick Rivers works across multiple disciplines including music, performance, sculpture and video. His work blends memory, humor and absurdity in ways that invite the audience into a delightfully uncanny world that is both familiar yet strange.

Sam Watts creates video art using multiple process and techniques. His current subject is the prescription drug culture. Benefits and epidemic side effects are called into question in what is a continually complex issue in the 21st century.

The 2018 Senior Art Majors Exhibition will be on display April 20-May 13. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 9-5 p.m. In addition, the gallery will be open on Sunday, May 13, 10-2 p.m., for the Wabash Commencement. Free admission.
