Zurek, Raeburn Top D3football.com All-North Region Selections

Wabash College senior Mason Zurek was named D3football.com North Region Offensive Player of the Year and Little Giants head coach Erik Raeburn received Regional Coach-of-the-Year honors from the online media outlet.

Nine Wabash players were selected 2015 All-North Region Team. Joining Zurek and Raeburn are first team selections Tyler McCullen (DT) and Andrew Tutsie (K), as well as second team picks Kyle Stucker (C), Wes Brown (T), Ethan Buresh (DE), Connor Ludwig (LB), Delon Pettiford (CB), and Austin Brown (S).

Zurek rushed for 2,011 yards this year, setting a new Wabash single-season record in becoming the first Little Giants player to top 2,000 yards in a year, and ranks second in the nation in total rushing. He also ran for a school-record 23 TDs, seventh best among Division III players this year. He ranks 17th in all-purpose yards (166.92 ypg) and 24th in yards per carry (6.49). Zurek set Wabash career records for rushing yards (3,379) and average yards per carry (6.55). He tied for second in career rushing TDs with 40 and ranks third in career rushing yards per game with 93.9, all despite only starting as a senior and playing in just 11 games as a freshman and sophomore.

Zurek earned first team All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors at running back for the second consecutive season and was named the 2015 NCAC Offensive Player of the Year. He is the second Wabash player named Regional Player of the Year by D3football.com, joining Cody Buresh who received Defensive Player of the Year honors last season. Zurek was also a CoSIDA Academic All-America Division III Football First Team selection.

Raeburn guided Wabash to a 12-1 record for the third time in school history, the first since his Little Giants team finished 12-1 in 2011. The 2015 NCAC Coach of the Year is 78-13 (.802) in eight seasons at Wabash and owns a 135-39 (.776) career record. He earned Regional Coach of the Year honors in 2002 as the head coach at Coe College. Wabash finished with a 9-0 conference record to earn its second NCAC title under Raeburn's tutelage.

McCullen, the NCAC Defensive Player of the Year, made 24 tackles including 17-1/2 for losses totaling 90 yards this season. He recorded 9-1/2 sacks in 13 starts. McCullen recovered three fumbles to tie for third among DIII players. He also forced one fumble. McCullen finished his career tied for fifth all-time in sacks with 27 and sixth tackles for losses with 233.  He anchored the Wabash defense up front, helping the Little Giants rank fourth in rushing defense (72.2 ypg) and turnover margin (1.69 topg), sixth in total defense (241.1 ypg), seventh in sacks (4.0 spg), eighth in scoring defense (11.9 ppg), and ninth in tackles for losses (9.3 tflpg).

Tutsie completed the season with 13 field goals and 60 extra points made to earn first team All-NCAC honors. His 60 PATs tied his own single-season school record set last year. He ranks second in Wabash history with 123 extra-point kicks. His 13 field goals rank 19th in DIII, while his 81.3 field goal percentage (13-of-16) is ninth best in the nation.

Stucker and Brown helped Wabash rank 15th in rushing offense (260.2 ypg) and 27th in scoring offense. Stucker started all 13 games for the seventh-ranked Little Giants at center. Brown missed one start due to an injury at tackle. The two combined with the rest of the Wabash offense to set school records with 3,382 rushing yards, 41 rushing touchdowns, averages for rushing yards per carry (5.31) and per game (260.2), total yards (5,836), and total points scored (506). The Little Giants tied the school mark of 67 touchdowns in a season, set first by the 2002 Wabash team.

Buresh earned second team All-Region honors for the second consecutive season. A preseason D3football.com All-America selection, Buresh finished the year with 37 total tackles, including 20 solo stops, in 13 starts. He recorded eight tackles for losses totaling 44 yards along with 6-1/2 sacks for 40 yards. He recovered two fumbles, scoring touchdowns both times. Buresh grabbed a loose ball in the end zone for his first recovery of the season before returning a Thomas More fumble 75 yards in the second round of the playoffs for the game-winning TD in overtime. His efforts helped Wabash tie for first in DIII in defensive scoring, matching the six scored by Albright.

Ludwig played all 13 games as a first-year starter at linebacker for Wabash, recording 36 tackles with 6-1/2 for losses of 25 yards to rank 25th in the nation in tackles for losses per game (1.7). He forced four fumbles, tying for fourth on the Wabash single-season records list while ranking 26th in the nation. He earned first team All-NCAC honors.

Pettiford also earned First Team All-NCAC honors after starting all 13 games at cornerback for the Little Giants. He made 59 tackles to go with 20 pass breakups and five interceptions. Pettiford ranked 25th in the nation with an average of 1.5 pass breakups per game and set Wabash single-season marks with 20 this year and 39 for his career.

Brown led the Little Giants with 97 tackles and six interceptions this season in 13 starts. He returned one of his two interceptions against Wooster 41 yards for his third career TD. He recorded a career-best 16 tackles in the Little Giants' final game of the season at St. Thomas. Brown ranked 51st in the nation in interceptions with an average of 0.5 per contest. He is tied for Wabash career record for interception returns for touchdowns with two and is tied for eighth all-time with 11 career interceptions.

The teams, selected in balloting by North Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 228 nominations by Division III schools. A total of 76 players were chosen. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced the evening of December 18 in D3football.com's pregame coverage for Stagg Bowl XLIII.
