Starting Your Career in a Gig Economy

    James Kennedy ’16 will share his experience starting a career in a creative field in Los Angeles, and what he has learned about navigating contract-based work in a gig economy to propel your career forward. James successfully turned an internship with an alumnus in L.A. into a full-time position, independently negotiated several contract jobs, and now works for Nike Global Sales WHQ in Portland as a Presentation Specialist and Communications Designer. If you are apprehensive about starting a career in a creative and competitive field like graphic design or digital marketing and want to learn how to keep steady work and income to support yourself post-graduation, this session is for you. Gig economy and contractual based work also affects many other fields today including technology, engineering, and theater to name only a few. RSVP in WabashWorks required. Lunch Provided.
