MXIBS KQ&K Tutoring Program: Malcolm X Institute 219, 3:30PM - 5:30PM
Keith, Quadiru, and Kenyatta (KQ&K) Mentoring and Tutoring Program Info Guide. Purpose? The purpose of the KQ&K Mentoring and Tutoring Program is to provide students in the Crawfordsville community with an enjoyable educational after school program. KQ&K aims to assist 1st-8th grade students with the development of necessary basic skills, to challenge their minds, and to enrich their educational experience. What do we do? On Monday afternoons, the members from the Malcolm X Institute (MXI) of Wabash College will pick up the students from their respective schools and transport them to the MXI by 3:20pm. The first hour allows the students to communicate with tutors the issues and problems they encounter in school. Forty-Five minutes of this time is devoted to academics. This allows the tutor to become a mentor to the student while helping the student develop the necessary skills to succeed in school. This is accomplished through the use of flash cards (Math and Vocabulary), reading, writing, computer programs, project, etc. The remainder of the time is educational as well, but in a way that is enjoyable for the students. The program provides a small snack for the students after the first half, followed by recreational activities for the students and tutors. The activities include computer games, board games, drawing, coloring, projects, science demonstrations from our science department, etc. After 5:30pm we will begin taking the students to their homes.
